CPRE Kent rebrands to Protect Kent at the Kent Show 2009
If you visited the Kent Show this year, you may have walked along ‘Protect Kent Path’ in the Eco Village and seen us launching our new brand!
Our Kent based Charity is this year celebrating 80 years of Protecting Kent, although previously we have been known as the Kent Branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England.
This year we were lucky enough to be able to become one of the main sponsors for the Eco Village at the Kent Show.
Protect Kent Chairman Richard Knox-Johnson said:
“We have had a very successful year at the Kent Show. The Eco Village is becoming increasingly popular with the general public as there is a growing awareness in people of green issues.
On our stand this year, our focus was climate change and the impacts we will be facing in Kent. We also had displays highlighting the main flood risk areas in Kent, which, suffice to say, surprised and shocked quite a few people!
Being a sponsor at the Kent Show this year, gave us the platform to position our new ‘Protect Kent’ brand in the ‘eco’ market. As a non-profit making Charity, we need the support of the people in Kent to be able to carry out the campaigns and work we do into local environmental issues.
One of our biggest current campaigns is the fight against the Kent International Gateway Development (KIG). We invited members of the ‘Stop KIG’ Group on to our stand throughout the Show, who emphasised to the public our reasons for strongly objecting to the proposal, which would potentially concrete over acres of countryside at the foot of the North Downs for a road-rail freight interchange.
It is very important that the people of Kent are aware of our Charity and in turn, that we can make people aware of planning applications and local issues such as KIG.”
If you would like to find out more information about Protect Kent and the work we do, or would like to become a members from as little as £29 a year, please contact our branch office on 01303 815180.
