Wye College - the truth

Press release on behalf of the Wye College Agricola Club:

"‘A Record of the Factors leading to, and the Consequences of, the Merger of Wye College, University of London with Imperial College’
Wye College Agricola Club, the Alumni Association of the former Wye College, University of London, has announced the publication of a Record that clarifies the factors that contributed to the decision taken by the Governing Body of Wye College to merge with another institution. The Record outlines the options considered, and the reasons for the selection of Imperial College for the formal merger in August 2000. This is followed by an account of the post-merger events and consequences, leading to the decision that Wye was ‘surplus to Imperial’s requirements’ and was to be closed.
The Record has been compiled for the alumni of Wye College, for former staff and for members of the Wye Community and beyond, affected by the College closure. It is also for the interest and attention of fellow academics and for those who are concerned with the governance of individual institutions, their public funding, and the system-wide national level of higher education related to the land-based industry.

Wye College had for over a century provided a continuous flow of basic applied and strategic research forming the bedrock on which land-based industries are founded. The Record represents a factual account of pre- and post-merger events; it does not attempt to consider either the significance of Wye’s national and international teaching and research contribution to the industry or this essential loss at a time when food security is so high on the government and worldwide agenda.
The Record has been produced as a documentary. All entries and references are evidence-based, and the source documents are held by the Agricola Club. A pdf version is available below and on the Agricola Club website on: www.wyeagricolaclub.org.uk
Hard copies of the Wye Record can be purchased by e-mailing contact@wyeagricolaclub.org.uk Price/hard copy: £4 + p&p.
