Local plans

As well as national policy and local planning applications, CPRE Kent continues to respond during the consultation process for Local Plans.
Local Plans are amongst the most important documents in the planning system, setting out where new homes, employment sites, roads and infrastructure should go over the next 15 to 20 years. Once adopted, planning decisions must follow them, meaning the Local Plan stage is often the best, and sometimes the only realistic, opportunity to challenge development in the wrong place.
Too often, communities only become aware of a site when a planning application is submitted, by which point the principle of development may already have been accepted through the Local Plan. This is why CPRE Kent places such importance on engaging early and robustly in the Local Plan process.
