Biodiversity Net Gain
On December 13, Professor David Rogers presented a fascinating webinar on Biodiversity Net Gain.
Prof Roberts carried out teaching and research for 40 years in the Department of Zoology Oxford University, specialising in entomology, ecology and epidemiology. He retired in 2012 and later became involved with the campaign challenging the government’s proposals to develop the region between Oxford and Cambridge as the Ox-Cam Arc.
The proposed very high levels of development threaten the fragile natural environment of this region. Biodiversity Net Gain requirements (part of the new Environment Law) are being presented as the antidote to over-development but are seen by many as green-washing business-as-usual development. The real question is therefore ‘net gain’ of what, for whom?
