Sea Link: it’s bad news for nature but here’s the chance to have your say

National Grid’s application for a Development Consent Order for its proposed Sea Link scheme has been accepted for examination by the Planning Inspectorate.

Sea Link entails the development of an underwater electricity link between Suffolk and Kent with onshore converter stations at either end (Minster-in-Thanet, in Kent’s case). It is bad news for the countryside and bad news for wildlife, as detailed here.

CPRE Kent have been involved from the outset in the campaign to protect Minster Marshes, much of which would be destroyed by NG’s scheme. We have made substantial representations to the rounds of consultation held and will of course be involved in the forthcoming examination.

It is important all those who also want to have their say on the plans register with the Planning Inspectorate as interested parties by Monday, June 23. You can do that here
