What a Day of Action!
Hundreds of people turned out for events in Kent as part of the National Day of Action calling for greater countryside protection.
CPRE Kent were at both Cliffsend and Garlinge in Thanet on Saturday, while the following day we teamed up with Hands Off Our Marsh for the Big Countryside Day at Lydd.
The day of action had been set up by the Community Planning Alliance to show the Prime Minister and our politicians how much nature, parks and green spaces matter to voters. More than 170 groups have signed up.
It was estimated that up to 400 people visited the brilliant event organised by Save Minster Marshes at Cliffsend, where the film The Planet We Call Home was shown by Connor Carruthers and guided nature walks were held around the hoverport site.
At the lovely Dent-de-Lion Court in Garlinge, meanwhile, local MP Sir Roger Gale joined those attracted to the event put together by Westgate & Garlinge Action Group Against Housing on Farmland.
On Sunday, there was another good turnout at the Big Countryside Day in Lydd, which we hosted with Hands Off Our Marsh. There were talks, along with plenty of community chat, new connections, celebrating the green and blue spaces of Romney Marsh… and lots of fun.
As HOOM said: “What a great community coming together to share how we best protect our precious wildlife, land and countryside here in Kent.”
Hear hear!
