Call on your MP to support rooftop solar

Energy Secretary agrees with us that we need a rooftop revolution – but we need to see action, not just words

Few counties’ landscapes have been damaged by solar farms as much as Kent’s, so we are delighted to support potential legislation that would require solar panels to be installed on all new homes.

CPRE has long been campaigning nationally for a rooftop solar revolution and our research shows that 60 per cent of the UK’s solar targets could be delivered on rooftops.

And rooftop solar is finally coming to Parliament. MPs will soon have the chance to vote on the New Homes (Solar Generation) Bill – also known as the Sunshine Bill – which would require new homes to incorporate solar panels.

The Sunshine Bill sets the UK on the critical path to achieving our renewable energy targets, but we need your help. It is critical that enough MPs turn up to the debate on Friday, January 17, to vote in favour of rooftop solar and drive the Bill forward to the next stage in the House of Commons. So we’re asking you to send a message to your MP to do just that.

Solar energy has the power to cut sky-high bills and tackle the cost-of-living crisis while taking action on the climate emergency – a win for people and nature.

Energy Secretary Ed Miliband agrees with us that we need a rooftop revolution – but we need to see action, not just words.
