CPRE Kent have given £2,000 to the campaign against the expansion of London Gatwick Airport.

We have long supported our friends at CPRE Sussex and such groups as Communities Against Gatwick Noise Emissions (CAGNE) in the battle to block the airport’s plans, recently drafting further objections to the proposal, highlighting issues with the roads network, emissions, air quality and harm to National Landscapes.

We co-signed an objection letter drafted by CPRE Sussex, but Heidi Alexander, Secretary of State for Transport, has backed the proposal sooner than had been anticipated.

CPRE believe this is an appalling decision that will cause more noise, congestion and air pollution, particularly in west Kent, together with further setbacks in the fight against climate change.

CAGNE is taking the government to judicial review over Ms Alexander’s verdict and has just heard that the case will be heard at the High Court over four days from Tuesday, January 20, next year, which is far sooner (by accident or design?) than had been expected by campaigners.
