Wildlife walk is a springtime wonder at country park
A group of 14 happy walkers including Nell the dog and Henry the baby enjoyed the delights of Trosley Country Park on Friday (May 16) for CPRE Kent’s nature walk.
Ecologist Mark Pritchard shared his knowledge with us, pointing out plants indicative of ancient woodland such as yellow archangel, wood sorrel and wood anemone.
We learnt a – very rough! – method of ageing trees (one complete hug equals a hundred years); heard about the ancient art of coppicing; and witnessed some of the unpleasant effects of ash dieback… all the while enjoying the woodland and views over the surrounding countryside.
The atmosphere was wholly informal and relaxed and only encouraged us to commit to more such events… watch this space!
